Judges included Vivien Lloyd, recognised nationally as a leading authority on domestic preservation with over 20 years' experience of making and demonstrating award-winning preserves, Gareth Johns, one of the few Master Chefs certified by examination working outside London and chef-proprietor of The Wynnstay Arms, and Lavinia Vaughan, Cordon Bleu trained cook, tutor and demonstrator who created the 2009 National Chutney Challenge working with the Mid Wales Food and Land Trust. The judges were delighted with the interest in this first annual Chutney Challenge Competition, and are looking forward to this becoming a regular event. Looking ahead to next year’s competition, Vivian Lloyd encourages all entrants "to use freshly ground spices rather that powdered or pre-ground, and to aim for a rich, balanced flavour with each of the ingredients contributing to its richness"
