The Supreme Champion for 2009, and the Champion of the Manufacturer category was awarded to Huntly Herbs, of Huntly, Aberdeenshire, for their Traditional Marrow Chutney, which the judges thought was extremely unique and superbly balanced.
This received close competition for top place by the entry from the Champion Kitchen Cook, Barbara Bulmer of Kenyon Hall, Warrington, Cheshire, with her outstanding Pumpkin and Orange Chutney giving a special twist of ginger to catch the palates of the judges and earning the award of Reserve Supreme Champion 2009.
Both the winners were surprised and delighted with the news. Fiona Wilson of Huntly Herbs said "We are thrilled and delighted to win, and we hope to be able to defend our title next year!". Barbara Bulmer, a keen cook and always looking to preserve the harvest from the fruit and vegetables grown on the family farm, said "This is wonderful – I’ve made chutneys all my life and it’s great to be rewarded with this achievement"
The Champion Professional Cook award was presented to Boasty’s Best of Weymouth, Dorset, whose Spicy Pear Chutney received judges’ comments on good colour and texture and its well balanced, spicy flavour.
